Imperial Cities

Marrakech: the red city at the foot of the Atlas

Founded in the 11th century, Marrakech is one of Morocco's four imperial cities. Its medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, is organised around Jemaa el-Fna square and the Koutoubia mosque, and is surrounded by miles of ochre ramparts.

Marrakech is also the starting point of many of our day trips — to Imlil and the High Atlas, the Ourika valley and Aït Ben Haddou — and a frequent pickup point for transfers to Essaouira and the coast.
